KOWHAI SYNDICATE - 2010
Welcome to 2010 from the Kowhai Syndicate. This year we have three classes in Kowhai Syndicate; these are Room 1 (Mr Stewart – Syndicate Leader), Room 17 (Mr Aiken) and Room 16 (Ms Puati). Please come and introduce yourself to your child's teacher, please don't wait for the 'Meet the Teacher Evening' on Tuesday 2nd March.
Swimming
All of the classes have begun their class swimming programme in our school pool. Swimming is a compulsory part of our P.E. curriculum; therefore please provide your child with a note explaining any genuine reason for not swimming. Room 16 is swimming on Mondays and Rooms 1 and 17 are sharing the swimming times on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
We will look to have some trails for the Interschool Swimming Sports later in the term. As this is a competitive event priority will be given to those children who are involved in swimming outside the school
Bike Wise Month - February
We are actively promoting Bike Wise this year as a fun and healthy way to get to school.
On Wednesday 17th February we are having a BikeWise afternoon for the whole school. There will be a number of Biking Activities with spot prizes at each area. Please support this afternoon by reminding your child to bring his or her bike, scooter or skates.
For those who are riding their bike to school please remind them to walk their bike in the school grounds and to wear their helmet. We have some tickets to go into a draw for a $600.00 bike or biking equipment from On Yer Bike. These will be given to those 'spotted' doing the right thing.
2010 Pelorus Trust Stadium Sports Festival
We are only one of 20 schools to be accepted into this Sports Festival held at the Westpac Stadium on Monday 22nd March (ppt Tuesday 23rd March). We are only able to take 30 children and therefore we are looking at 10 per class. There is a cost for this event which is still to be confirmed.
Unit: Science in the Home
Later this term as a Syndicate we are looking at 'Science in the Home'. This will be an Inquiry Unit and so we need you to discuss with your child what they could study.
Examples are: Soap Making, Ginger Beer or Bath Bombs.
Concerns
If you have any concerns regarding your child, please ring or see your child's class teacher in the first instance. In all of our classes we have been looking at the responsibilities expected of us at school. Please ask you child about these.
It has been a fun, busy and exciting start to the year. Most of the children have made an excellent start to the year and we are all looking forward to a positive and productive 2010.
