Welcome to Kahikatea Syndicate
We are the senior syndicate of Year 7 & 8 students. This year there are 4 classes at this level. Our teachers are: Mrs Wagstaff, Syndicate Leader and Teacher in Room 19, Mrs Moran (formally Miss Eccles) in Room 18, Mr Young in Room 3 and Mr Knap in Room 4.
Mr Young arranges all of the sports events for us, and he now has Mr Knap - who is an expert in tennis - to help. Mr Knap is going to pick and coach the tennis team in preparation for the tournament in March, so if you have skills - or an interest - in tennis, listen for notices to do with this. Mrs Moran has volunteered to work with a dance group this year, instead of a music group. We look forward to these contributions from the Kahikatea teachers.
Year 7 & 8 are busy years at Raumati South School. There are loads of activities and responsibilities that you can chose to participate in - and we hope you will take advantage of the opportunities that are offered.
2012 Kahikatea Camp
National Park 13 - 17th February 2012
This years camp is back to Pipers Lodge at National Park. All of the camp forms went home last year, if yours hasn't been returned please do so at the start of the new school year.
Parental consent, emergency procedures and risk disclosure.doc
The big activity on this camp is the tramp to Red Crater, part of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Students must have the required thermal gear to undertake this tramp. The gear list were distributed at the end of last year and can also be found here:
Start of Year
All students have their stationery lists. It is good for the students to begin the first day with all of their stationery. It would also be useful if they brought their own dictionary to school as well. At this time of the year, 'Oxford' or 'Collins' School Dictionaries are on special at the school stationery suppliers.
Term 1
As well as camp in week 3 of the term, there are a number of activities and sports events that the students will be involved in. These include the Swimming Sports - syndicate and inter-school, Triathlon, Tennis and PCT CHallenge.
The dates for the sports events are:
Syndicate Swimming at the Waikanae Pool - 28th February
Inter-school Swimming at the Waikanae Pool - 6th March
Triathlon, at Waikanae - 13th March
Tennis (a team of 4) at Te Atiawa Courts - 20th March
We are still waiting to hear the date for the PCT Challenge.
In Kahikatea we strongly encourage all students to participate in as many activities as they would like to as well as responsiblilities around the school. These include: School Ambassadors, Peer Mediators, Road Patrols, Librarians and a number of others.
As Syndicate Leader, I look forward to welcoming the students back to school on the 31st January and encouraging them to be the best they can be in all areas of their school life in 2012.
If you need - or want - to contact your child's teacher you can ring the office and leave a message for us to get back to you or you can email us on our school email addresses. These are:
Trish Wagstaff, Room 19 Teacher and Syndicate Leader: wagstafft@raumatisouth.school.nz
Sarah Moran, Room 18 Teacher: eccless@raumatisouth.school.nz
Mike Young, Room 3 Teacher and co-ordinator of all sports events: youngm@raumatisouth.school.nz

We are named Kahikatea because the Kahikatea or White Pine is the tallest of New Zealand's forest trees, and we are the oldest pupils at RSS.
