Room 4

Term 2 Underway

Term 1 and the recent holidays have been and gone and we're now well underway into term 2.

Students in Room 4 have taken their time getting back into school mode but are now well and truly working away diligently.

We are fortunate enough at the moment to have Constable Amanda facilitating us through the NZ Police DARE programme.  The purpose of the programme is to educate our students on the dangers of alchohol and drugs enabling them to make positive decisions.  Students are currently working on a chronicle of their lives which is a celebration of them.

As well as DARE, we are doing a mini unit on the Language of Advertising in which the students are analysing and learning about the language and graphical techniques that advertisers use.  The end goal will be for the students to create their own print ad in which they will be discouraging the use of drugs and alcohol.

Our focus for reading at the moment is on inferencing.  Students are reading a wide range of texts and are making inferences that are supported by evidence from the text.  The students appear to have a good grasp of this at the moment.

Please check this page regularly for more updates on what is happening in Room 4.
