Kanuka Syndicate Newsletter

Term 3 2010

Welcome back to term 3.  We hope everyone had a fantastic holiday.

Kanuka sydicate is having a bake sale.  As many of you read in the school newsletter Angus Welsh’s (Room Ten) little sister Pheobe has been diagnosed with leukemia.  Angus’ parents and sister are now in Christchurch while she gets treatment.  Kanuka syndicate would like to help Angus raise some money so that he can fly to Christchurch to see his family.  We are going to be selling baked goodies on Friday 30th July to the rest of the school.  All of the money raised will be given to Angus and his family.  We would like to ask the children of Kanuka syndicate to please bring a plate (baker’s dozen) of goodies (cookies, muffins, cupcakes, fruit kebabs, etc.) to school on Friday 30th July.  We will sell the goodies at morning tea and again at lunch if we have left overs.  Kanuka children are welcome to bring some money if they would like to buy some goodies as well.  Thank you for your assistance.

Last term every child brought home a portfolio displaying some of their work so far this year.  Once you are finished looking at these can you please send them back to school and return it to your child’s teacher.  We hope that you found these informative and were able to write a comment regarding your child’s progress.

We are now in the middle of winter and this means that there are sicknesses going around.  If your child is unwell please keep them at home so we can stop the spread of germs.

This term we are continuing to put a strong focus on reading, writing and maths.  As well, we have continued our unit on the world and our heritage.  To assist the children with their learning on this topic we are going to be visiting Te Papa in Wellington to participate in a program about the different people, cultures, and stories that make up New Zealand.  A notice will come home soon with more information regarding this trip.

If you have any concerns or questions please speak to your child’s teacher to arrange a suitable time to meet.  Thanks to all of those parents who provided transport last term to gymnastics and right choice day.  Also thank you to parents who offer support in classrooms.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Monique Streater, Jim Swift, and Kristin Cudby
