Garry Aitchison
This is my fourth term on the Board. I have attended many training sessions to help me understand the role of a trustee and be an effective board member. I am particularly interested in the Finance and Property areas of the Board's responsibilities
Sarah Lee -Chairperson
I was elected to the Board in April of this year and have a particular interest in health, Maori culture and language, and the overall health and well being of staff and pupils at Raumati South School.
Graham McDonald
I became Principal of Raumati South School at the beginning of 2007. As Principal I manage the school and ensure that the strategic direction of the Board is implemented.
Nik Swan
I was elected as a Parent Representative onto the Board in 2007, and am a parent to one current pupil. I have enjoyed the opportunity to help steer the direction of our school towards a high achieving environment where all our pupils can enjoy success, and where teamwork flourishes. My previous experience in not-for-profit society management and administration has been put to good use in my present role.
I believe being actively involved in your children's education can only be a positive and rewarding experience for both parents and children. This has definitely been the case with my involvement at Raumati South School which is why I am keen to take the next step and become involved at the Board of Trustees level.
Vanessa Watt
I am very pleased and excited to become involved with Raumati South School as a Board member. My husband Kosta and our three children have been living on the beautiful Kapiti Coast since December 1994, and have been parents associated with Raumati South School since 1997 (when our eldest daughter first became enrolled.) Born in London, England- my parents emigrated to New Zealand when I was two years old- where they raised myself and my brother in the South Island. I definitely consider myself a New Zealander- a kiwi; however in my 20's I decided to take a 6 month break from my work to travel. I returned back to New Zealand from England 7 years later- with a whole lot of unexpected experiences- including a Macedonian husband (former Republic of Yugoslavia), and 2 year old daughter!
That 2 year old daughter is now a 17 year old at Kapiti College (Year 12), our NZ born son - 13 years, and in Year 9 at Kapiti College, and with our youngest kiwi daughter 8 years old, in Year 4 at Raumati South.
Having worked for Government social services for 20 years; over the last five years I returned to University to complete some post graduate studies, and also enjoyed diverse part time contract work for various social services, or in a private capacity. I am now employed part time by Te Hiringa Hauora Matauranga Iwi Social Services, and also enjoy further contract work coordinating interagency plans for youngsters with challenging behaviours and/or needs.
I have always based my study and work in the area of children, adolescence, families/ education. I consider myself to have a special interest and passion in this area. I particularly enjoy supporting children/ young people and their families experience and achieve success- no matter what the barriers or difficulties faced! I have found schools can provide a very good place to start.
Lastly- I am never happy without a good "mission"/ or challenge - involving a group of people working together. Needless to say- I am enjoying my current new role with the Board and look forward to the term ahead.
Moira Titchener
I am the elected staff representative on the Board of Trustees. I am also the Assistant Principal at Raumati South School. I have worked at the school for many years. I love the environment at Raumati South School. We allow our students to take risks in a supported way, not only within the classroom environment, but also in the playground, and in "Education Outside the Classroom" programmes. We allow skateboarding and bike riding, and have a large "farm" area the students play on at lunchtimes. We also have camps and off site activities to further challenge and extend students.
I enjoy the supportive community and many wonderful parents that work with the school in its aim to educate students to become lifelong learners.
